Osimhen wins best African Player in Ligue 1

Nigerian sensational striker Victor James Osimhen has emerged winner of the 2020 Marc Vivien Foe award for the best African Player in Ligue one.

The announcement was made official today, via Popular French media outlets RFI and France 24.

The 21-year-old Lille forward emerged as winner of the 11th edition of annual prize from a list of 11 footballers who were shortlisted for the award.

By a far margin, the 2019-2020 Lille player of the year,saw off competition from second placed Algerian and Monaco striker Islam Slimani.

5. M’Baye NIANG (Senegal/Stade rennais) – 43 points

6. Idrissa GUEYE (Senegal/Paris SG) – 37 points

7. Hamari TRAORÉ (Mali/Stade Rennais) – 37 points

8. Denis BOUANGA (Gabon/AS Saint-Etienne) – 27 points

9. Edouard MENDY (Senegal/Stade rennais) – 24 points

10. Andy DELORT (Algeria/Montpellier HSC) – 13 points

11. Moses SIMON (Nigeria/FC Nantes) – 10 points

Osimhen who had a very fascinating season with Lille, scoring 18 goals in 38 games across all competitions is now the second consecutive Lille player to win the Award.

He is also the second Nigerian (besides Vincent Enyeama), to win annual event organized in memory of Cameroonian midfield maestro Marc Vivien Foe.

Last year’s edition was won by former Lille forward Nicolas Pepe, whom Victor replaced.
