Renowned nobel laureate Wole Soyinka described the #endsars protest as one of nigeria’s most successful movements. Speaking at an interactive session during the launch of his book, titled ‘the Putin Files: excursions around the ideology of pain,’ in Lagos, Soyinka expressed that the protest served as a manifestation of the people’s frustration with the country’s situation.

The #endsars movement, initiated in october 2020, saw protesters nationwide demanding an end to police brutality, which eventually led to the dissolution of the special anti-robbery squad of the nigeria police force.

Soyinka also recounted addressing some demonstrators during one of the protests in lagos. He further revealed that certain individuals had attempted to manipulate the country into establishing an interim government even before the 2023 elections, suggesting that those who supported this plan were misled.

Soyinka compared the #endsars movement to the Peter Obi movement, emphasizing the former’s authenticity and organization based on truth, while asserting that some participants in the latter were misguided by half-truths.

Soyinka expressed his willingness to challenge such misleading narratives and criticized those who resorted to unverifiable claims, asserting his superior knowledge on the matter.
