Lionel Messi has created an all-time record in LaLiga Santander after scoring his 25th league goal in Barcelona’s 5-0 victory over Deportivo Alaves on Sunday evening.
The 33-year-old superstar finished the league as the highest goal scorer with 25 strikes, thereby setting a new LaLiga record for most Pichichi awards.
According to a statement from Barcelona’s official Twitter page, the six-time ballon d’Or winner added a record seventh Pichichi award to his numerous accolades.
“IT’S OFFICIAL! Leo #Messi wins the 2019-20 Pichichi Trophy, the seventh of his career, a new, all-time @LaLigaEN record! Goat,” the statement reads.
Lionel Messi became La Liga’s top scorer in the 2009-2010, 2011-2012, 2012-2013, 2016-2017, 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 seasons.

Prior to Barcelona’s game against Alaves, Messi was on par with Athletic Bilbao’s legend Telmo Zarra on the Pichichi awards with six. This new achievement places him above everyone else.

Leo was one of the shining lights for the Catalan giants despite their lackadaisical displays which led to Real Madrid LaLiga title win.
While they keep hoping on the Champions league, Messi would at least have something to cheer him up after a disappointing LaLiga outing.
