University of Calabar asks final year students to go back to 2nd year

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) Mrs. Florence Banku Obi, have allegedly instructed the final year students of some selected departments of the school to go back to 2nd year as a result of accreditation issues.

According to recent reports, the affected departments which includes Fine and Applied Arts, Mass Communication, and Music, lost accreditation of courses by the National Universities Commission.

Some of the final year students of those department told Sahara Reporters that their new Vice-Chancellor Mrs. Obi has some personal issue with the former Vice (Zana Akpagu) who was reigning when the three departments was newly introduced to the school and the animosity took a toll on students’ lives.

The affected students described the Vice-Chancellor’s decision as inhumane and inconsiderate. They also lamented about the money their parents spent over the years on their education
