Eid el Mubarak!
“Mubarak” is an Arabic word that means “blessed” while “Eid” means “feast or festival or celebration”.
So Eid el Mubarak literally means blessed celebration.
Eld el Mubarak is an Islamic festival that has its story based on the popular story of the prophet Ibrahim who was supposed to sacrifice his son as an obedience to God’s command.
However, Ibrahim did not sacrifice his son but sacrificed a Lamb that God provided.
To commensurate this, an animal is traditionally sacrificed and divided into three parts in acknowledgement as Qurbani.
One part is the sheep is given to the poor, one to the immediate family And one to the relatives
During this period, some Muslim families may give money to charity to give to poorer families the opportunity to have a proper Eid feast, while community groups and mosques will often arrange communal meals.
Eid Al Adha falls on the tenth day of Dhu al- Hijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic calendar.
And is one of the holiest dates in the Islamic calendar.
Based on the lunar calendar, this date shifts from year to year moving forward around eleven days every year.
