The Atlanta police officer who shot and killed a black man has been sacked while the second officer involved in the case was placed on administrative duty.
On Friday 12 June, Rayshard Brooks a 27-year-old black man was fatally shot and killed by an Atlanta police officer identified as Garrett Rolfe.
According to reports, police was responding to a call about a man sleeping in a parked vehicle in the restaurant’s drive-thru lane, causing other customers to drive around it.

When the officers arrived at the scene they gave Brooks a field sobriety test, which he failed, then the officers tried to take him into custody.
He resisted arrest and struggled with officers according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
Eyewitnesses told investigators that on the process of struggling with the officers, Brooks grabbed the officer’s stun gun and started running away.
“At that point Garrett Rolfe reaches down and retrieves his weapon from his holster, discharges it, strikes Mr. Brooks three times there on the parking lot and he goes down.

Brooks was later taken to a hospital, where he died, the police statement said.
The GBI kicked off an investigation into the incident at the request of the Atlanta Police Department, officials said Saturday. Once that investigation is completed, the case will be turned over to prosecutors.
After brook’s killing, the Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields announced her resignation.
Brooks death sparked outrage around the city as proteters stormed the Wendy’s restaurant on Saturday night and set it ablaze.
Brooks’ death comes just about three weeks after George Floyd’s death sparked global demonstrations that decried police brutality and racism. Floyd died after pleading for his life while a Minneapolis officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes.
