Nigerian Politician and Lawyer, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has criticized the attitude of the current national leader of the All Progressives Congress Bola Tinubu towards a renowned traditional ruler.

The former Lagos State governor has been under fire after a picture him sitting down while the Ooni (the traditional ruler of Ife) stood to greet him at the coronation of the Oniru of Iruland, went viral on social media.

Chief Kayode, in a message he passed via Twitter said Tinubu’s lack of proper respect to the monarch is not only an insult to the sons and daughters of Ife but also a crying shame to the entire Yoruba land.

He wrote:

“That the Asiwaju of Bourdillon refused to stand up to greet the Ooni of Ife speaks volumes. This was not only deeply insulting to every Ife & indeed son & daughter of Odua but it is also a crying shame. Would a northern pol. leader refuse to stand up for his traditional ruler?”

Simple courtesy demands that Bola Tinubu, despite his political position or age should stand up to greet the Ooni of Ife, according to the traditional norms governing the Yoruba people.

Four years ago, the former President of Nigeria Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, who is many years older than the monarch, bowed down to greet him as a show of respect.
