The Nigeria Police Rivers State Command has Apprehended one police inspector who was accused of raping a widow at a gunpoint after he arrested her for flouting COVID-19 preventing protocols.
According the reports, The officer identified as Inspector Peter Ebah arrested the 23-year-old lady at Saakpenwaa checkpoint in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.
After thorough search, the lady was brought out from the vehicle and delayed till evening for not wearing a face mask.
In a complaint filed with the police, the alleged victim accused the Inspector of taking her to a guest house at gun point where he raped her till morning before letting her go.
According to the reports, the victim had raised alarm during her arrest in a text message posted on a WhatsApp media platform.
“I have been taken to a guest house just because of N100 face mask. I can’t believe this is happening to me. He wants to sleep with me. I am dying. He wouldn’t let me pick any call. He threatened to seize my phone,” the WhatsApp message reads.
Confirming the arrest of inspector Peter Ebah, the command’s spokesperson, Nnamdi Omoni, says that the officer involved has been arrested and currently in detaintion.
Nnamdi insists that the command had launched a full investigation into the rape allegation by inviting the victim and the police officer and his team during the incident.
In his words he said;
“The parties have provided useful statements to investigators.
“They were invited on Thursday and the matter is being investigated by detectives at the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
“The officer was detained immediately after giving his statement.
“We assure members of the public that justice would be served at the conclusion of our investigation.”
