Muhammed Musa, a laborer, admitted to murdering Pastor Dada Itopa on his farm in Ipele, Ondo state. He claimed that an herbalist demanded a fresh head from him, leading him to kill the pastor with a cutlass.
Alongside another laborer who fled, Musa also attacked the pastor’s wife, Bose Dada, and injured her. The incident occurred after the laborers had been hired from Kogi state to clear weeds on the pastor’s farm for N11,000. Musa requested the pastor’s sharper cutlass for clearing, but instead used it to fatally attack the pastor. The victim’s wife sustained injuries and is receiving treatment.
Police arrested Musa for the murder and clarified that he carried out the attack to obtain a human head for the herbalist’s request in Ipele. The other laborer, Omatai, remains at large. Musa admitted to his involvement, revealing that he was introduced to the business of farm work by Omatai. The police spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami, provided details of the incident, stating that on August 7, 2023, the pastor, his wife, and the laborers went to their farmland to clear weeds.
Omatai requested a cutlass from the pastor, deceitfully intending to use it for work but instead used it to murder the pastor. Musa attacked the pastor’s wife to prevent her from stopping their escape.
Musa’s confession shed light on the motive behind the gruesome murder, as he revealed that he and Omatai attacked the pastor in order to obtain a human head for the herbalist’s demand. The police arrested Musa and launched a search for Omatai, who fled the scene. The incident underscores a tragic example of violence driven by a dark purpose, and the victims’ family now faces the aftermath of this senseless act.
