Two men were reportedly stabbed in an apparent homophobic assault that took place within a nightclub situated in the southern region of London, United Kingdom, on Sunday. The incident unfolded on Clapham High Street, with both victims being swiftly transported to a hospital for medical attention. Fortunately, they were later released following treatment for the knife attack, as per information provided by The Guardian UK.
According to an official statement from the Metropolitan police, the assault transpired around 10:15 pm the prior night. The victims, aged in their 20s and 30s, respectively, were subjected to this attack driven by prejudice. Detective Inspector Gary Castle, speaking on behalf of the Metropolitan police, announced the commencement of a search operation to identify the assailant responsible for the incident, which is being treated as an act of homophobia.
DI Castle acknowledged the potential distress this attack might cause to members of the LGBT+ community. He reassured that an immediate and thorough investigation is underway to locate the individual accountable for the assault. In light of the incident, the Metropolitan police recently introduced the reintroduction of LGBT+ community liaison officers for each of the 12 fundamental command units across London.
