Argentina maestro Lionel Messi has made himself the new king of South American football (CONMEBOL) after surpassing Pele’s goalscoring record.
The 34-year-old Paris Saint Germain star struck a fantastic hat trick in Argentina’s 3-0 defeated of Bolivia at the World Cup Qualifying game on Friday.
Those goals took his tally to 79, one ahead of Brazilian legend Pele in CONMEBOL goalscoring record. Messi is officially the highest goalscorer in South American football.

He needed just two goals to set a new record, but little magician in his typical fashion decided to make it more memorable with an incredible three.
Messi’s first was a stunning long-distance goal as early as the 14th minute of the encounter. After the break, he played a one-two with some of his teammates to slot in his second of the game. He completed his treble at the stoppage time.
