Super Eagles midfielder John Ogu has revealed that his teammate Kelechi Iheanacho was deeply affected by his absence during the 2019 African Nations Cup in Egypt.
While expressing his delight in the performance of the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the ongoing AFCON 2021 in Cameroon, Ogu pointed out some players in team who have impressed him so much. Though his favourite player is Moses Simon, but he stated that he is particularly proud of Kelechi Iheanacho.
According to Ogu, the Leicester City striker was crying and didn’t want to really talk to anyone when he discovered that his name was not on the list.
“One person I’m most proud of is Kelechi Ihenacho. I remember the last Afcon he was dropped. He was crying so hard and didn’t want to really talk to anyone. I’m so happy for him Today,” he wrote.

The former Hapoel Beer Sheva star also expressed happiness that other players who were dropped at the last AFCON are the ones shining in the current edition.

He also spoke highly of the impact Wilfred Ndidi has had in the tournament. Ogu described him as a ‘Double Engine’ in the midfield.
