Knowing how to change a car tyre is a necessary step every driver should know. Whether you are driving for a personal use or for commercial use, flat tires can occur anywhere and anytime.
Necessary tools for changing a car tyre include; a wrench, car jack and a spare tyre
Here are simple steps to change a car tyre;
- Find a safe location to park your car; a leveled ground will be perfect to avoid rolling of the car while changing. Straight roads are advisable too to enable the driver see oncoming cars.
- Turn on hazard lights; this is to give signal to the car is not in motion.
- Put your car on wedge. Wedges should be put in front and behind the tires to ensure it doesn’t roll while you fix a flat tire. If you are changing a rear tire, place the wedges in front, and if you are changing the tire in Front place the wedge behind the rear tire.
- Remove wheel cover if you tyre has its this can be done with the flat end of your wrench.
- Loosen the nuts- Using the wrench, turn the nuts anti clockwise. Some certain level of force will be required at this point but don’t loose it completely, loose about 1/4 or 1/2 of a turn.
- Place the jack under the vehicle- the right place is usually under the car frame alongside the tire that is flat.
- Raise the car: Before raising the car with a jack, place a small cut if wood under the jack. This prevents the jack from settling under the weight of your car.
- Completely unscrew the nut.
- Remove the flat future, pull gently until out.
- Place the spare tire in the lug bolts
- Tighten the lug nuts: This can be done with hands.
- Use the jack to lower the car; lower it so that the spare tyre is resting on the ground but it’s weight is not fully in the ground.
- Use the wrench to tighten the nuts
- Lower the vehicle completely.
- Replace the wheel cover if necessary.
- Replace all tools used.
