Africa, which is popularly known as the continent of the Black people is one of the seven continents in the world. Africans are said to belong to a human race known as Negroid (the black race), with exception of the North Africans who are said to belong to the Caucasoid race (the white race).
According to statistics, Africa is the second most populous continent and the world’s second largest continent by size. Africa accounts for about 15% of the world’s human population. Africa contains 54 fully recognised countries, with nine territories and two de facto independent states with limited or no recognition.
In Africa, Algeria is the largest country by area while Nigeria is the largest country by population.
It has been generally accepted that Africa, Central Eastern Africa particularly, is widely accepted as the place of origin of humans and the Hominidac clade (great ages) which is evidenced by the discovery of the earliest hominids and their ancestors.
Africa is the only continent that stretches from the Northern temperate to Southern temperate zones. In the late 19th century, most countries in Africa were colonized by European countries and then in the 20th century, they were decolonized.
Africa is said to be the hottest continent on earth and 60% of the entire land surface in Africa consists of dry lands and deserts.
Generally, Africa has the world’s largest combination of wild animal population and diversity.
