In Anambra State, a woman named Nnaemeka Nwosu is accused of setting fire to a policewoman and her two children. The incident took place in Nnokwa community in Idemili South Local Government Area on Sunday. The suspect, originally from Amawbia, had recently been divorced and was in desperate need of housing. She reached out to the policewoman, who offered her accommodation in her apartment.
According to an anonymous source in the area, trouble began when the suspect had an argument with the policewoman, resulting in a physical fight. The suspect used a pestle to strike the policewoman repeatedly until she fell unconscious. Subsequently, the suspect tied the policewoman and her children together with a rope inside their room and set them and the building on fire. All three victims were tragically burned in the incident.
Local vigilantes and villagers who were alerted by the fire managed to apprehend the suspect as she attempted to flee. Initially, the suspect claimed that the victims were burned as a result of a gas cylinder explosion while boiling water. However, she later confessed to the crime and provided details about how she carried out the horrific act.
The Anambra State Police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident and stated that the suspect had been arrested. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for further investigation. The bodies of the policewoman and her children have been taken to the morgue.
DSP Ikenga provided a brief account of the incident, explaining that the policewoman had offered accommodation to the suspect while she was searching for a house. The two women had a disagreement, which escalated into a fight, leading the suspect to strike the policewoman on the head with a pestle. As a result, the policewoman lost consciousness, and the suspect proceeded to tie her and her children together before setting them on fire. The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be communicated accordingly.
