In a recent statement, Nigerian actor Yul Edochie addressed the concerning trend of burning shrines and deities, urging for a reevaluation of cultural practices and traditions. Edochie’s words resonate deeply with the ongoing discourse surrounding the preservation of indigenous beliefs and the consequences of blindly adopting foreign ideologies.

Highlighting the complexity of traditional practices, Edochie emphasized that not all deities are malevolent entities. He pointed out the detrimental effects of colonial influence, which sought to vilify indigenous cultures and replace them with Western ideals. By instilling a sense of shame and inferiority, colonial powers facilitated the erosion of age-old traditions, making it easier to subjugate indigenous peoples.

Edochie urged for a reclamation of cultural identity and a rejection of the notion that all indigenous practices are inherently evil. He emphasized the importance of understanding and respecting diverse belief systems, recognizing that many deities coexist alongside a reverence for the Almighty.

Meanwhile, social media users think Yul should face his ministerial work or embrace serving deities as some think he’s being two sided in his religion belief.
