On May 26, 2024, 27-year-old Khanyisile Vanessa Mndayi was brutally attacked by her boyfriend in their Berea, Johannesburg home, South Africa. The suspect, Luuk De Jong, allegedly stabbed Khanyisile over 20 times in front of their children.
After the assault, De Jong locked the severely injured Khanyisile and the children in the house and fled with his belongings. Neighbors, alerted by the commotion, called the police. When De Jong returned, purportedly to continue his attack, police arrived and arrested him. Khanyisile is now in a coma, fighting for her life.
