The Federal House of Representatives has called for a reversal of the recently implemented increase in school fees in Federal Government Colleges. The lawmakers expressed their concerns about the anxiety caused by the fee hike, considering the economic hardships faced by parents and students due to recent subsidy changes.

The motion, initiated by Nkemkanma Kama, the representative of Ohaozara/Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State, highlighted the importance of education for national progress and unity. Mr. Kama also pointed out the dilapidated facilities and lack of teaching materials in Unity Schools, which have adversely affected the quality of education.

The lawmakers expressed worry that the increased fees may force parents to withdraw their children from schools, potentially leading to a rise in the number of out-of-school children. They argued that education should remain accessible and affordable, particularly during challenging economic times. Therefore, they called on the Federal Ministry of Education to review and revert to the previous school fees regime.
