In the speech which was entitled “Address to the nation by his Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the EndSARS protests, 22nd october, 2020”, Buhari discussed several issues that caused unrest in the nation.

He began his speech by acknowledging that the EndSARS protest which was started by the youth was a step in the right direction, but stated that protest has been hijacked and misdirected, leading to several unlawful activities including violence and looting.
The president also claimed that the EndSARS protest has given rise to the spread of deliberate falsehood and misinformation through the social media.
He further noted that the government has put several measures in place to protect lives and properties of all law abiding citizens. Read the full speech here.
However, something was obviously missing from President Buhari’s national speech – the ugly incident that took place at Lekki Toll-Gate on Tuesday evening, when some military men shot and killed many unarmed protesters.
