President Muhammadu Buhari has finally reacted to the recent call by Nigerians to ban the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigeria Police Force.
Buhari, who met with the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu, revealed that he had directed the IGP to address the agitation of Nigerians on police brutality.
Further holding that the vast majority of men and women of the Force are patriotic and committed to their duties of protecting lives and properties, Buhari assured Nigerians that erring police officers will be punished.
“I met again with the Inspector General of Police tonight. Our determination to reform the police should never be in doubt. I am being briefed regularly on the reform efforts ongoing to end police brutality and unethical conduct, and ensure that the Police are fully accountable to the people,” he said.
“The IG already has my firm instructions to conclusively address the concerns of Nigerians regarding these excesses, and ensure erring personnel are brought to justice. I appeal for patience and calm, even as Nigerians freely exercise their right to peacefully make their views known.

It will be recalled that famous celebrities and other Nigerians on Wednesday and Thursday took to the streets of different states across the country to demand the disbandment of (SARS), a unit of the police, accusing its officers of human rights abuse.
