North korea orders Lockdown amidst COVID-19 outbreak

The Government of North Korea orders a lockdown amidst the COVID-19 outbreak detected in the capital city, Pyongyang.

North Korea president, Kim Jong Un ordered for National lockdown to tackle the covid-19 virus outbreak.

This is the first time North Korea confirmed the covid-19 outbreak since the 2020 pandemic.

The state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Thursday without elaborating on the number of confirmed cases.

The state broadcaster also added that a maximum control effort was being imposed in Pyongyang.

It was later reported that North Korea Supreme Leader, Kim Jong Un has called on all the cities and counties of the country to thoroughly lockdown their areas.

North Korea is reported to have rejected an offer of a vaccine from the UN-backed by a global vaccination initiative. And sud workers have warned that it would struggle to handle a major coronavirus outbreak, given its dilapidated health system.

A Christian aid worker who runs the Helping Hands Korea organization in Seoul reported that North Korea’s medical system is antiquated, fragile, and drastically ill-equipped, also adding to the large percentage of people in need of food assistance.

Therefore, Authorities have decided to put the country into lockdown to curb the spread of the virus.
