Naira Marley, the renowned singer, recently shared a lesser-known aspect of his life during an interview with Cool FM Nigeria in Lagos. He disclosed that while growing up in London, United Kingdom, he had a background in football and played for notable teams like Arsenal youth, Millwall, and Charlton.

The Marlian leader explained that prior to coming to Nigeria, not many were aware of his football background. He attributed his seamless integration into Nigerian street music to his upbringing in South-East London, particularly Peckham, which he likened to a mini Lagos.

Naira Marley also revealed that his father played a significant role in shaping his Yoruba language skills, as English was strictly forbidden at home. Instead, they primarily communicated in Yoruba and embraced other aspects of Nigerian culture, such as enjoying Fuji music and consuming African cuisine. This upbringing made the transition to Nigeria much easier for him, and upon his return, people were surprised to learn about his London upbringing as it was not widely known.
