Lekan Balogun emerges as the new Olu Ibadan after the demise of Oba Saliu Adetunji on Sunday.
After the passage of Oba Saliu Adetunji, at University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, some chiefs held a meeting at the home of Otun OluIbadan of Ibadan Land.
Members of the OluIbadan-in-Council have endorsed Dr Lekan Balogun as the next OluIbadan of Ibadan.
The new development was made known by Osi Balogun of Ibadan land, High Chief Tajudeen Ajibola during a briefing on Wednesday in Ibadan.
According to Vanguard, January 2, 2022, Lekan Balogun was speculated to be the next in line as the OluIbadan of Ibadan according to laid down the hierarchy of the ascension of OluIbadan.
It was reported that the hierarchical arrangement has two line approaches, the Balogun system and OluIbadan (Otun) system.
OluIbadans are appointed on a rotation to fill up the death of the monarch based on the system. The next to OluIbadan and most senior on both lines are Otun OluIbadan.
Lekan Balogun was born in a royal family and he sits on the Board of several companies.
He was a former presidential aspirant on SDP (Social Democratic party) and a Gubernatorial candidate for PDP (People’s Democratic Party) in Ọyọ State.
Lekan Balogun also rose in Traditional hierarchy as he rose in politics.
