The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has suspended Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma  from taking the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for three years. This action was taken due to allegations of forgery regarding her 2023 result. JAMB clarified that the result presented by Miss Ejikeme was forged and stated that they had stopped issuing Result slips after the 2021 UTME because candidates were falsifying them.

In an official statement, JAMB’s Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Fabian Benjamin, assured the public that their system had not been tampered with or compromised. He explained that Miss Ejikeme had falsified a copy of a result slip belonging to a candidate named “Asimiyu Mariam Omobolanle” who took the UTME in 2021 and scored 138.

The statement emphasized that the QR code on the result slip indicated the actual owner of the result before it was manipulated. The Board encouraged the public to scan the QR code to verify the true owner of the result. It was also mentioned that JAMB stopped issuing Notification of Result slips after the 2021 UTME because of instances of falsification. Since 2022, they have been providing actual UTME RESULT Slips with the candidate’s photograph.

The statement highlighted that Miss Ejikeme was the only candidate from the 2023 UTME who possessed the outdated “Notification of Result.” The Board expressed its lack of concern about this situation, as similar fraudulent claims have been made before. They referred to previous instances where JAMB was sued for large sums of money, only for the lawyers to later apologize for their clients’ false claims.

The case of John Chinedu Ifesinachi was mentioned as an example, where the candidate initially threatened to sue for damages but eventually confessed to his crime. The Board handed this matter over to relevant security agencies for a thorough investigation to identify the masterminds behind the scam.

JAMB stated its willingness to undergo public scrutiny, including a session involving listed agencies and relevant security agencies, where the candidate, her parents/guardians, and her legal team would be present. The Board also warned against the influence of malicious individuals who are trying to manipulate the situation, referring to a staged video by Miss Ejikeme.

Furthermore, JAMB assured the public that they are prepared for genuine scrutiny, as this is not the first or last time such incidents will occur. They believe that the truth will eventually come to light, and the Board will be vindicated. In the meantime, they urged the public to critically examine the issue at hand and avoid spreading fake news.

As a consequence of Miss Ejikeme’s serious infraction, JAMB’s management has withdrawn her 2023 UTME result and banned her from taking any of their examinations for the next three years.
