Indefinite Strike Might Begin This Week After ASUU Announcement (Read)

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU) is planning on shutting down all public university across the country indefinitely as federal government bluntly refused to honor the agreements the two parties entered into in December 2020, which led to the suspension of a nine-month prolonged strike.

The national governing body of the union took a major step this week ahead of the planned industrial action.

Asuu on Monday 7th February 2022, directed its members nationwide to declare, in preparation for a possible showdown with the Nigerian government.

In a statement issued by the National President, Prof. Emmanuel Osedeke, the lecture-free day today will enable members to have urgent meetings.

According to Osadeke, the Federal Government ignored the implementation of some agreements the two parties entered into in 2020.

Osadeke said that, if the FG fails to do the needful, an indefinite strike would be inevitable.

Multiple circulars issued by the various branches of the union announcing the decision, noted that the lecture-free day will be used to sensitise the university communities and the general public on the failure of the government to honour an agreement the parties entered into in December 2020, and which led to the suspension of a nine-month prolonged strike then, he added.
