Bayern Munich is reportedly engaged in negotiations to secure the services of David de Gea through a free transfer. However, an obstacle arises in the form of his salary expectations. De Gea recently departed from Manchester United after an impressive 12-year stint at Old Trafford, amassing an impressive record of 545 appearances and breaking the club’s all-time clean sheet record.

The 32-year-old Spaniard was the highest earner at Manchester United, commanding a substantial weekly wage of £375,000. Despite his impressive history with the club, Manchester United opted not to trigger the year-extension clause in his contract, instead opting to introduce a more modern goalkeeper, Andre Onana.

As of now, De Gea remains unaffiliated with any club and has garnered interest from Saudi Arabian teams, known for their lavish spending spree in this transfer window. Saudi clubs have lured star players with hefty salaries, aiming to convince them to make the move from Europe to the Middle East. Despite these enticing offers, De Gea declined Saudi interest and dismissed the prospect of joining Italian side Inter Milan. His preference seems to lean towards a return to La Liga.

While Real Madrid initially appeared poised to secure De Gea’s services, manager Carlo Ancelotti displayed reluctance towards the former Manchester United goalkeeper. Consequently, Real Madrid opted to secure Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea on loan.

Presently, Bayern Munich, the reigning German champions, have expressed their desire to sign De Gea. However, reports indicate that they face a significant challenge due to his demanding wage expectations. As negotiations continue, it remains to be seen if a resolution can be reached that satisfies both parties.
