The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has maintained that it will not suspend the ongoing strike action unless the Federal Government addresses their demands.
According to a report by Punch, the National President of ASUU, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi recently had a stakeholder’s meeting at the Union’s Secretariat in University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
In the meeting which held on Saturday, Professor Ogunyemi said the Federal Government refusal to implement its 2012 universities needs assessment is the reason why the strike will continue.
The bill was put in place by the Federal Government who then saw the need for students’ hostels, lecture rooms and laboratories to meet the standards of other countries.
ASUU is only demanding that they fulfill the promise they made eight years ago before school resumes in accordance with the COVID-19 health protocols.
The Professor also stressed that the government’s refusal to amend the salary scale of Nigerian University lecturers is another reason why ASUU would suspend its ongoing strike action.
