A heart attack happens when something blocks the blood flow to your heart, so the heart cannot get the oxygen it needs.

The reduced or blocked flow of blood can be due to a build-up of fat or cholesterol and other substance in the heart arteries, and these fats and cholesterol contain deposits called plaques.

Whenever a heart attack occurs, immediate treatment is needed to avoid death.
