Four-year-old Miguel Ovoke, a pupil of BrickHall School in Abuja, tragically passed away during lunchtime on April 24, 2024, after choking on a piece of meat. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at Excel Specialist Hospital. Miguel was laid to rest on May 10, 2024, at Gudu Cemetery, Abuja. The school and Miguel’s family announced plans to establish an educational foundation in his honor, providing scholarships to students.

Dr. Akinwande Ajayi, on behalf of the Medical Director, confirmed the cause of death as “aspiration on meat while feeding at school.” In a joint press conference, both the school and Miguel’s family appealed for privacy and requested that protests be avoided.
