Verbal abuse can be as harmful as physical abuse. It can cause low self-esteem on the side of the victim.

If you ever find yourself as a victim of verbal abuse, do these things:

1. Communicate with your abuser

You shouldn’t keep mute over vital issues such as going through verbal abuse. Talk to your partner about this, be direct and specific over your feelings. Use clear words to state your emotions on the kind of words your partner uses on you.

Never let anyone make you feel less.

2. Don’t engage with the abuser

Trying to engage your abuser may result in more hurtful words or even physical abuse. Someone who abuses you verbally can also abuse you physically.

Get a support system to surround yourself. It could be trusted family and friends, just make sure that you have people around you who can come to your aid when you need a shoulder to fall on.
