Two employees of the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) have been suspended following an alarming incident that occurred in their office. The suspension came after CCTV footage revealed the employees, along with two others, engaging in what appeared to be a ritual after office hours.

The footage captured one individual holding what seemed to be a snake, while another person was seen sprinkling liquid throughout the office. The incident, which occurred on April 12, left their colleagues shocked the next day when they found needles and what appeared to be muti, a traditional medicine, at their workstations.

Senzeni Ngubeni, SASSA spokesperson in Mpumalanga, confirmed the suspensions, stating, “We have found out that two of our officials were involved in the incident. As it stands, they have been suspended. Investigation into their conduct is underway.”

To ensure the safety of the office, SASSA has arranged to use a community hall while the office undergoes cleaning and fumigation. Members of the public have been notified to use the community hall in the interim.
