A 17-year-old secondary school student, identified as Wumi, was arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly stabbing her foster mother, Mrs. Funmilayo Adelayi, to death in their residence in Oda, Akure, on March 13, 2024.
According to Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, the command’s spokesperson, the suspect is in custody, and an investigation is underway, with the family suggesting the suspect had a mental health issue.
The deceased had cared for the suspect since childhood. The suspect, in SSS2, had to leave school due to worsening mental challenges but continued her education in a private school. Despite advice from neighbors to seek help from the suspect’s parents, the foster mother chose to care for her, possibly believing her treatment was sufficient.
