In Edo, a 24-year-old University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT)student has been apprehended by the police for allegedly fatally stabbing his girlfriend. The Commissioner of Police for Edo, Mr. Muhammed Dankwara, disclosed that the case was brought to their attention by the suspect’s landlord in Benin.
According to the landlord, the student had stabbed the young woman multiple times in the neck and chest using a knife. Swift police action led to the arrest of the suspect, who was found in possession of two blood-stained knives, two iPhones, one Nokia phone, one laptop, and two ATM cards. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where her body was placed in the morgue.
The investigation was subsequently handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s homicide section in Benin. The suspect is expected to be charged with murder in the near future. The suspect claimed that the deceased had traveled from Asaba to be with him in Benin, but an argument erupted when he discovered fetish items in her possession. The disagreement escalated to violence, resulting in both parties using weapons against each other.
Separately, another individual, aged 25, was arrested for defrauding an 18-year-old of N5.2 million. The police commissioner stated that the suspect possessed counterfeit foreign currency and charms used to manipulate victims. The suspect had confessed to the crime and would face legal proceedings. In addition to these cases, the police commissioner showcased a 31-year-old accused of disseminating explicit photos of his ex-girlfriend and another individual charged with rape.
