The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation, and Safety Corps, known as So-Safe, have reported the arrest of a 38-year-old man, Mathew Ifeanyi. He is accused of brutally killing his 100-year-old father, Anthony Nnadike, in the Olorunda area of Eruobodo Ntabo, Ijoko, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.
Ifeanyi allegedly used a machete to murder his father due to his frustration over not being able to repay a sum of N70,000 that had been entrusted to him since July 2022.
The Commandant of the So-Safe Corps, Soji Ganzallo, released a statement on Wednesday through the Corps’ Director of Information and Public Relations, Moruf Yusuf. The statement revealed that on Tuesday, August 29th, Superintendent Alabi Gafar received information about the attack on a 100-year-old man by his own son. The victim was located at 11, Ibikunle Street, Diamond Estate, Olorunda Area, Eruobodo Ntabo, Ijoko. The Divisional Command patrol team was dispatched to the scene to rescue the victim and apprehend the assailant.
Upon arrival, it was discovered that the victim had sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the General Hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by a doctor. During initial questioning, Ifeanyi reportedly confessed to the heinous act, citing frustration over his father’s failure to provide him with the money he needed after quitting his job to start a business.
Ifeanyi has since been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Sango Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation and legal proceedings. This tragic incident underscores the extreme consequences of financial strain and highlights the importance of addressing such issues through constructive means.
