Guinea Bissau’s first choice goalkeeper Jonas Azevedo Mendes has vowed that his team would rather ‘die’ than see themselves losing their last AFCON 2021 group game against the Super Eagles of Nigeria

Mendes, who happens to be the team’s Captain made this known in a recent press conference. He said they are battle ready for in-form Super Eagles and are determined to ensure they come out victorious.

Asked if they were targeting any particular player in the Eagles team, Mendes said: “We know Nigeria is a good team. It will be a mistake to target any particular player. We are facing all of them with equal attention.”

#AFCON2021: 4 areas that must be fixed after Super Eagles 3-1 victory against Sudan.

This will definitely be an uphill task for the Djurtus and their goalkeeper who once played for Beira-Mar, in the Primera Liga. The Nigerians are yet to lose a game in group D while Guinea Bissau are yet win a game in the group that has Egypt and Sudan.

Guinea Bissau are currently ranked 6th among the best losers. A win over the Super Eagles will see them qualify for the round of 16.
