She has made her mark in music, fashion and beauty. After achieving so much, she is finally letting her hair down. Literally, beyond the ponytail are her beautiful dark curls. Ariana’s signature look developed over time. During her broadway days, Ariana had dark curly hair, the opposite of her signature sleek ponytail. It wasn’t long before she had a dramatic style change.
As you may or may not recall, Ari was a Nickelodeon star. She played ‘Cat Valentine’ in their hit series ‘Victorious’ alongside Victoria Justice and Liz Gilly. Cat was known for her out of this world personality and her signature bright red hair. The producers of the show thought the bold colour fit Cat’s personality the most and didn’t want all the cast members to be brunettes. Sadly, going from dark hair to red is no easy task.
According to Ariana, she had to bleach and dye her hair every other week. It wouldn’t be so bad if the show didn’t last for four years. Victorious was immensely successful and led to a spin-off called Sam and Cat once again featuring Ari’s red hair.
Even with a successful acting career, Ariana always wanted to pursue music. She released a single ‘Put Your Hearts Up’ with Cat’s signature hair colour. After Sam and Cat concluded, Ari ditched the colour but kept the hairstyle. The iconic high pony was front and center in her subsequent releases and has stuck around since then.

However, fans have voiced their upset over the consistency. Ari revealed on Facebook after the years of bleaching, that it damaged her hair severely. She wrote: “I wear it in a ponytail because my actual hair is so broken that it looks absolutely absurd when I let it down. I tried wigs they looked ridiculous, I try to weave…and literally wanted to rip my scalp off.”
“So as annoying as it is for y’all to have to look at the same hairstyle all the time, it’s all that works for now,” Ari said.
Her ponytail was a necessity that made her feel confident. With that, she took over the charts and our hearts. Her voice blew us away, then everyone started trying her ponytail out but nobody can wear it quite like her. Over time, she grew to love her pony. What was a quick fix solution became part of her identity.
