Who is nine years old, had Kim and Kanye at their birthday party and won a Grammy? You guessed it, that would be Blue Ivy Carter.
The beehive was buzzing after Jay-zy and Beyoncé’s daughter took home a Grammy for best music video for Brown Skin Girl. The young musician received a writing credit alongside her mom for their collaboration. She’s the second youngest artist ever to win a Grammy.
Aside from being the daughter of one of the most famous couples in the music business, we don’t know a lot about this budding star. Unlike some other famous children we love to follow, Blue Ivy has been relatively private. Her parents desire to live a life guarded from the paparazzi has had many positive impacts on their oldest daughter.
Aside from the awards she snagged for her credit on Brown Skin Girl, the public knows very little about Blue Ivy. Even her elementary school lifestyle is hidden from the public.
A source told In Touch Weekly that a security motorcade drops off Blue and picks her up from school, adding that there are two cards and three bodyguards. This is anything but new for the nine-year-old who has had her own security details since she was born. A family friend told the Huffington Post that Beyoncé and Jay-Z took extra care when Blue was born to make sure it didn’t turn into a media circus.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z famously took the necessary steps to make sure their private lives stay private even when they got married in 2008. Every detail was hidden until they were ready for the world to know, which happened to be three years later. They are so private that to this day, it’s unclear when they started dating. Could this be from the advice that Beyoncé got from Oprah Winfrey?
Oprah, known for giving great advice told Beyoncé on the Oprah Show to protect their privacy for the sake of their relationship. I think they took that all the way and it is something that the couple have extended to their immediate family.
Jay-Z and Beyoncé can’t hide from the public when they’re on tour though and touring is sometimes a family affair. The couple brought all three of their kids on their ‘On the Run II Tour’ in 2018. Their twins Roomie and Sir were only one year old at the time, but they made it work.
An insider told People that they were so excited to do this that they treated the tour as a fun family adventure. Fun and outgoing decisions like this show Blue Ivy the family values that her parents have and also expose her to their lives in an environment that can be closely monitored by them.

There’s no doubt that Blue Ivy has a fabulous life. She vacations on yachts, bids thousands of dollars on art at auctions and wears clothes we can only dream of having in our wardrobes. But her parents are still committed to ensuring that she has a childhood that is as normal as possible.
In an interview with the New York Times Style magazine, Jay-Z said his chief task as a father is to make sure his kids have empathy for others and the ability to understand how fortunate they are. He said: “My child doesn’t need the same tools I needed growing up. They’re growing up in a different environment.” He added that he wants to educate his kids on the world as it is today and how it got to this space.
There’s no doubt that he works tirelessly to ensure that his kids have an understanding of where he comes from and the ability to be thankful for being so blessed. While Blue Ivy has learned a lot about being a good person who lives a private life from her parents, we’re sure that she’ll be passing on the same values to her little brother and sister Rumi and Sir.
We’re used to seeing the oldest daughter of Jay-Z and Beyoncé on red carpets, at concerts and even in the studio. So it has us wondering, does she have a career in music ahead of her? She already has her own stylist personal shopper and enough trophies to need a shelf for storage, but will she want to follow in her parents footsteps? Only time will tell. But it seems like it’s a way of life for the young fashionista.
Since she was born, music is an integral part of her life, but it’s not the only part. Recently, Jay-Z has made numerous business deals, one of them being the sale of his music streaming platform title to Square, a payments platform owned by Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.
Beyoncé of course has her clothing line named after Blue called ‘Ivy Park’ and regularly works with global brands like L’Oréal. So, if Blue decides that she doesn’t want to be in the music industry and wants to explore another industry or business as she gets older, she has the right parents to mentor her through the process.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z have thought of everything weeks after Blue was born. Beyoncé filed to register Blue Ivy Carter as a trademark. The filed trademark applications included goods and services covering everything from books to pacifiers, shampoo cosmetics, jewelry, video games and online store & entertainment services.
Her company even launched beauty related products in her daughter’s name. Talk about creating a legacy, it’s evident that her parents have set her up for success. But will Blue choose to live a more private life because of her upbringing and shy away from the spotlight?
Whatever blue decides to do, we know she’s going to do great. Her parents have instilled superb core values in her and she already has a resume that most of us would be envious of. We can’t wait to see what she does next.
