Cardi B awarded Billboard woman of the Year

American female rapper Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, known professionally as Cardi B has on Thursday received the coveted Woman Of The Year award at Billboard’s virtual Women in Music event.

Cardi was honoured with the title following her activism and political involvement, throughout the year. It was Tamika Palmer, the mother of Breonna Taylor, who was shot during a police raid in March, that presenter her with the award.

The 28-year-old singer has already expressed her gratitude for the honour in a message she passed via social media:

“I am also extremely grateful to @tamikamallory and @aliciakeys for inviting me to the call where I got the chance to meet Tamika Palmer and hear Breonnas whole story for the first time. So many black men and women are wrongfully killed everyday with no consequence. Every one of you women inspire me! Thank you!”
