Cardi was honoured with the title following her activism and political involvement, throughout the year. It was Tamika Palmer, the mother of Breonna Taylor, who was shot during a police raid in March, that presenter her with the award.
The 28-year-old singer has already expressed her gratitude for the honour in a message she passed via social media:
