Nigerian music King, Innocent Ujah Idibia, also known as 2Face, has been appointed a regional Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR.
The announcement was made official today, in a statement released via the UNHCR website.
The statement reads:
“At a time when one percent of humanity has been forced to flee, we welcome 2Baba’s help in raising awareness and support for refugees and our cause,” said Dominique Hyde, UNHCR’s Director of External Relations. “We welcome 2Baba to the UNHCR family as a Goodwill Ambassador and commend him for being part of the movement challenging the narrative of the African refugee.”
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, abbreviated as UNHCR, is a United Nations agency with the mandate to protect refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people, and assist in their voluntary repatriation, local integration or resettlement to a third country.
2Baba has been a committed High-Level Supporter of the agency for the past three years. He holds the record as the very first Nigerian to be appointed as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador.
Meanwhile, the Afropop music legend, has taken to his social media pages to celebrate his new achievement.
