The last thing a child wants to do is bring home a very bad grade for his parents. A disappointing grade can create an emotional problem not only for the child but for the parents also.
Different parents have different ways of reacting when their ward(s) finishes a whole session with a very poor results.
While some parents has used subtle means to help their child to get better in academics, many others usually prefer an equivalent punishment that would be hard for the child to forget.
