FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and veteran singer Innocent Idibia, known as 2Face, are among the ‘100 Most Notable Peace Icons in Africa’, as listed by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). The list, released by the organizers on their website, also includes several other notable Africans. From Nigeria, figures like former SGF Boss Mustapha, Tony Elumelu, Mohammed Abdullahi, Alhaji Imaan Ibrahim, Femi Otedola, and others are recognized. Renowned clergy Pastor Jerry Eze, Nollywood star Rita Dominic, and various other individuals from diverse backgrounds have been acknowledged for their peace-building efforts.
Amb. Kinsley Amafibe, the Project Director for Africa in this initiative, congratulated the Nigerians who made the list. He emphasized that the honorees come from diverse backgrounds and have dedicated themselves to peace and non-violence. These icons have effectively used their talents, resources, and positions to promote peace throughout the continent. Amafibe noted that while this list isn’t exhaustive, it highlights individuals who have significantly contributed to peace and justice in their communities and beyond.
These peace icons encompass political leaders, activists, humanitarians, artists, media personalities, financial experts, and more. They are dedicated to resolving conflicts, fighting injustice, providing aid, promoting unity, and supporting the growth of peace. The initiative believes that their efforts have inspired millions and contributed to a more peaceful world. Amafibe further stated that as we honor these individuals, we’re reminded of the impact their work has on the world and hope their examples will continue to inspire others to strive for a just and peaceful global community.
The list extends beyond Nigeria and encompasses figures like human rights activist P.L Olumba, Rwanda President Paul Kagame, Seyi Vodi, Hajiya Salamatu Muktah Josephine Nwaeze, Ayo Animashaun, and Prof Stevens Azaik, reflecting the diverse range of individuals who have dedicated themselves to peace across the continent. The initiative acknowledges and celebrates their contributions, with the aim of encouraging others to follow in their footsteps for a more peaceful and just world.
