Buhari approves joint military and police operation in five states

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has approved a joint military/police operation specifically targeted at curbing the effect of banditry in five northern states.

The states including Niger, Kaduna, Katsina, Zamfara and Sokoto.

This was disclosed in a statement by Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

In the statement, the President gave an assurance that the armed forces would continue to work for the common good of the country while professionally carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.

He also assured that they ‘are capable of dealing with the challenges of banditry and terrorism, urging more patience as the military takes appropriate steps to block gaps being exploited to unleash mayhem on innocent citizens.’

He further explained that surveillance will be improved, with more night vision aircrafts already deployed under “Operation Accord”.

Buhari’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad also confirmed the report with an image of the statement in his official Twitter page.
