Due to a security alert on Saturday, a portion of the Eiffel Tower, an iconic symbol of France and a major tourist attraction that welcomed 6.2 million visitors last year, had to be evacuated. The evacuation involved three floors of the tower located in central Paris.
The organization responsible for managing the Eiffel Tower, SETE, confirmed that bomb disposal experts and police were carefully searching the area, including a restaurant situated on one of the affected floors. While such procedures are infrequent, they are deemed necessary in such circumstances, according to a spokesperson.
The evacuation took place shortly after 1:30 pm (1130 GMT), encompassing both the three floors and the square surrounding the monument.
As a historical landmark, the construction of the Eiffel Tower was initiated in January 1887 and concluded on March 31, 1889. It gained prominence by hosting two million visitors during the World’s Fair of 1889. The tower remains a prominent symbol of Paris and France’s cultural identity, attracting millions of tourists annually.
