In collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Edo State Government has provided training for 500 young individuals in the state, equipping them with skills for the future workforce. The initiative, called ‘Digi Link,’ was held at the University of Benin and organized in partnership with ACIOE Associates and Public Digital, aiming to enhance the state government’s digital capabilities.
During the one-day workshop, the Focal Person of the Edo State Social Investment Programme, Ms Osayueamem Aladeselu, expressed that the program intends to prepare the youth for the future job market by nurturing entrepreneurial skills and instilling enthusiasm about their career paths. She emphasized the goal of creating digitally empowered citizens in the state, expanding learning opportunities, bridging the gap between academia and industry, and establishing a talent pool for the public sector and digital ecosystem, in line with the vision of Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.
Aladeselu further explained, “Our aim is to ensure that young individuals actively participate in the digital transformation process, acquiring the necessary skills to thrive in the future workplace. Today’s training, targeting over 500 youths in the University Community, has significantly contributed to improving their employability, academic performance, earning potential, productivity, and responsible digital citizenship.”
She also highlighted that the event provided a platform for discussing how innovation and technology can address societal challenges and how the state government’s digital initiatives, such as the Edo Innovation Hub, can be utilized by participants to enhance their skills and contribute to the development of the state and the country.
Mr. Ekenem Isichei, the Programme Director of Digi Link, stated that the Learning Series for university students would be conducted across all universities in Edo State.
