Sadio Mane expressed his admiration for his teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo, following the legendary forward’s crucial goal in Al-Nassr’s 1-1 draw against Zamalek in the Arab Club Champions Cup. The match marked Mane’s debut for the Saudi club, having recently completed his move from Bayern Munich.
In the 87th minute, Ronaldo headed home a cross from left-back Konan, securing Al-Nassr’s qualification as runners-up in their group, with an unbeaten record, and setting up a quarter-final clash against Moroccan side Raja Casablanca on Sunday.
The Instagram post by Mane congratulating Ronaldo on his goal demonstrated the burgeoning camaraderie between the two stars, fueling hopes for a formidable attacking partnership. Ronaldo’s equalizer marked his 840th career goal, signifying a resurgence in form ahead of the new Saudi Pro League campaign, having scored two goals in as many starts in the Arab Club Champions Cup.
Mane’s excitement at playing alongside the football icon was evident in a picture where he had his arm around Ronaldo during the match. The Senegalese forward eagerly anticipates forming a potent offensive duo with the five-time Ballon D’or winner.
Al-Nassr confirmed Mane’s transfer from Bayern Munich for £34m earlier in the week. The Saudi Arabian club, having finished second in the Saudi Pro League last season, trailing five points behind champions Al-Ittihad, has made significant signings to enhance their title chances. Notable additions include Marcelo Brozovic from Inter Milan, Seko Fofana from Lens, and Alex Telles from Manchester United. Other star players like Anderson Talisca and former Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina also feature for Al-Nassr.
With Ronaldo’s impact already evident, Al-Nassr aims to capitalize on their strengthened squad and his abilities to challenge for major honours in both domestic and continental competitions.
