Beyoncé’s BEYGood charity will donate millions to help provide mental health and other essential services amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The charity announced this week will partner with Twitter CEO ’sJack Dorsey Start Small campaign to provide $6 million in relief funds to multiple groups, including community-based organizations, UCLA and the National Alliance in Mental Illness, providing services in Houston, New York, New Orleans, Detroit and more.
“Communities of color are suffering by epic proportions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many families live in underserved areas with homes that make it harder to practice social distancing. Communities that were already lacking funds for education, health and housing are now faced with alarming infection rates and fatalities. And these communities lack access to testing and equitable healthcare,” the charity said in a Thursday statement.
The charity has also partnered with several organizations, like Bread of Life, No Kid Hungry and more, to share basic necessities in “some of the hardest hit areas,” including providing food, water, cleaning supplies, medicines, face masks and personal hygiene items.”
“These are unprecedented times and it will take our collective efforts to make a difference,” the Thursday statement said.
During Global Citizen’s One World: Together At Home broadcast last week, Beyoncé lauded health care and other essential workers.
“To the doctors, the nurses, and other health care workers who are away from their families, taking care of ours, we continue to pray for your safety,” she said during the broadcast.
“To those in the food industry, delivery workers, mail carriers, and sanitation employees, who are working so that we can be safe in our homes, we thank you for your selfless service,” she continued.
