Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma has approved the appointment of Professor Peter Achunike a lecturer of the University of Nsukka, Nigeria (UNN) as the new acting Vice Chancellor of Imo State University.
The Governor made the announcement Owerri while celebrating his one year anniversary in Owerri.
The newly appointed IMSU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter A. Akah was born on November 3, 1957, is all shades a well read and decorated academic and scholar.
He was many times the Head of Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, and the former Associate Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies and Dean Student Affairs UNN.

According to Archive of Current Research International, Prof. Peter has been a permanent member of the Senate of UNN since 1995, and a member of many faculty and university committees.
He is also an adjunct professor and Head Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, College of Medicine, Imo State University since 2006.
One time Visiting Professor at the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD), Abuja, (1994-2000).
He has served as an adjunct professor of Pharmacology at the University of Uyo, Uyo and Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, as well as a Consultant Pharmacologist to UNDP, NIPRD and NAFDAC.
He has published more than 200 papers and 5 books and 21 book chapters in his subject area, and has presented more than 50 papers in many national and international conferences.
He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Medicinal Plants Research (JMPR), African Journal of Pharmaceutical Research and Development (AJOPRED) and Continental Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences (CJPS).
He is a member of the Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria (IPAN) and a Fellow of the Academy of Science (FAS).
He belongs to many learned scientific and professional associations.
