ICT expert, Dayo Akindolani, has urged the Federal Government to urgently reform the education sector. Akindolani emphasized the need for digital skills to be integrated into the national curriculum. He pointed out that previous governments have underutilized the potential of digital skills and hindered Nigeria’s ability to become a digital talent hub compared to developed nations.
To build a strong talent hub, Akindolani stressed the importance of prioritizing education and training. The government should invest significantly in overhauling the curricula, incorporating digital literacy and coding skills into school programs, and supporting universities in creating relevant courses.
Collaboration with private sector organizations and international partners can provide scholarships, grants, and mentorship programs to nurture talent from an early stage.
Akindolani also highlighted the unprecedented opportunity for the current administration to transform Nigeria into a digital talent hub. By learning from past initiatives, drawing inspiration from successful global examples, and leveraging the country’s population and diversity, the government can focus on key areas to establish a robust digital ecosystem.
Implementing these measures, Akindolani believes, will not only garner international attention but also stimulate economic growth, generate employment opportunities, and position Nigeria as a prominent player in the global digital economy.
Furthermore, Akindolani recommended that the government prioritize expanding internet connectivity, especially in rural areas, by investing in broadband infrastructure and exploring innovative solutions like satellite internet.
Establishing data centers, technology parks, and innovation hubs nationwide will create a favorable environment for startups and talent development.
