Did you know that you can actually check your National Identification Number (NIN) from your phone through USSD code? Let me show you how!
The National Identity Management Commission directed all Nigerians to use the provision of USSD code to retrieve their NIN number, all you need to do is to dial *346# to get started.
The USSD code is available for all Glo,MTN, Airtel and 9mobile subscribers.
This comes after the Nigerian Communications Commission [NCC] gave two weeks deadline for all network subscribers to provide valid National Identification Number (NIN) in other to update their SIM registration records.
NCC recently introduced new measure for mobile phone SIM users and part of it is a compulsory update of valid National Identification Number [NIN].
If you a subscriber and yet to register for National Identity Card, do so now by following the next step below.
Step 1
Visit the NIMC portal and fill the Pre Enrolment online form.

Ensure you provide your correct information as required in all the mandatory fields inside the form.
Download and print your Pre Enrolment Slip.
Step 2
Submit Your Application
Afterwards, visit the nearest NIMC registration center near you, ensure you go with any one of the following original and valid supporting documents.
Officials at the enrollment center will will verify all your application details and if your application is in order, the officials will proceed with the capture of biometrics (ten finger prints and facial image) and after the process, a transaction ID Slip will be given to you as an evidence of your transaction.
Step 3
Collect your NIN
The normal time frame to get your National Identification Number (NIN) Slip is within 2 to 3 working days from the time you did your capture and biometric enrolment. In most cases, the validation details takes longer than expected.
Do not forget to keep the Transaction ID Slip given to you safe, you will need it as an evidence during the collection of NIN Slip.
How do you know when your Nimc card is ready?
Visit the National Identity Management Commission [NIMC] website- www.nimc.gov.ng
Scroll down to the home page and click on ‘e-ID Card Status Portal’ to check if your card is ready at the activation centre.
Finally, fill in your first name, last name and your NIMC check tracking ID and hit the ‘check now’ icon button.
